Facebook’s illusion of Control over Location-Related As Targeting: Medium
Utterly unsurprising from the advertising giant, particularly when you read this quote from Rob Goldman (VP of ads) about how users are able to :
control how your data informs your ad experience.
Putting bluntly, Aleksandra Korolova sum it up :
Taken together, Facebook creates an illusion of control rather than gives actual control over location-related ad targeting, which can lead to real harms.
Let’s be absolutely clear, I’m not against behavioural analytics and the use of data to help businesses and users alike, but the ‘creepy line’ 1 has been passed and some rolling back or outright honesty is needed to reset things for end users.
